Expressions is the creative arts programme of Milestones Trust. This interactive landscape is the result of a year’s work by hundreds of people supported by Milestones Trust, the south west’s leading care provider.

"Being able to tell my story has made me feel a part of something special."

Sarah

At this year's event you can sail to a desert island, meet the Sea Witch, reinvent yourself in the mystery wardrobe, take a tube train to a larger-than-life city, and find unexpected souvenirs in the shop.

You can also explore a fabulous knitted street, try knitted wigs at the wig shop, and buy a pint of knitted milk in the corner shop.

Drop Stitch Drive

Knitted shop

Wander down Drop Stitch Drive and meet the many residents of this colourful high street with a difference. There you can try out a blue rinse or a purl perm in the 'Hair Peace Salon' or perhaps shrink your jumper at the Launderette.

Become the photographer or the photographed in 'Make a Moment' Photography Studio, and be sure to leave some time to get making with the artists in the Work Shop.

Cardboard Express

Cardboard Express

Come aboard the Cardboard Express and take a journey through memory and imagination! Using predominantly the medium of cardboard, service users have recreated the interior of a passenger train carriage.

The Cardboard Express has been created by service users of Milestones Trust with the help of an artist/animator, a storyteller and a puppeteer. We hope you will enjoy the journey with us, on a train bound for a hundred destinations - real and imagined.

The Sea Witch

Sea Witch

This image is a maquette (scale model) of the 12ft textile sculpture textile group are making for Expressions 2014.

The sculpture incorporates weaving, spinning and embroidery made by the group over the last 12 months; all of which are new skills we have learnt as part of our creative journey.

As in previous years we are also exploring the human form and scale in this piece. We have used a wide variety of materials in the weaving including plastic bags which are a statement about the pollution in the oceans (as well as a very effective and cheap weaving medium.)

Take a Moment Photography Studio

Travel to a different era; a photo shop with a difference! The big box camera will be back, and there will also be digital cameras and lights, so come and try out being a photographer yourself. With its 60's decor and dressing up clothes, you might find yourself travelling to a new persona.

The journey from May to November

See beautiful watercolour paintings and drawings made at Arnos Vale cemetery. Hear the sounds of birds, and the rustle of the trees, with photos of each visit giving a sense of the individuals and their journeys.
