The Afghan Box Camera

Bill and the Afghan camera

"Afghanistan is one of the last places on earth where photographers continue to use a simple type of instant camera called the kamra-e-faoree for means of making a living. The hand-made wooden camera is both camera and darkroom in one and generations of Afghans have had their portraits taken with it, usually for identity photographs." (www.afghanboxcamera.com)

This year, the photography group have made one of these cameras, with the help of Marcus Fitzgibbon. Photographs were taken using the camera and will be displayed at the Expressions 'Bringing the Outside In' event in April.

Secret Garden

Step into our walled secret garden and stimulate all the senses. Visitors can sit and read on one of the park benches, listen to the birds tweeting or admire the knitted plants. A calm, relaxing space which brings serenity to Expressions 2013.

Sculpture Trail

Sculpture

The Textile group have been working hard to create sculpture heads and plinths to bring a feature of a Victorian English park inside. Guests will be able to take a pleasant stroll through the trail which will also feature clay busts made by sculptor Tom Astley.

Bringing Yourself to the Table

An installation made by six Milestones Trust service users. Bringing Yourself to the Table allows each person to express themselves through objects they bring to the table. Each has made a plate with an image they have produced fired onto it. Visitors can sit at the table and listen to a sound piece from each person talking about themselves.

Nature workshop

Make some pretty patterns from natural seasonal material and record them photographically. Material will be provided but you can bring items along yourself too. Why not bring a flower or two, small twigs, ferns or feathers? We will be working on quite a small scale so please bear that in mind, the ones illustrated are all within 2ft/60cm square.
