Milestones Trust

A rewarding apprenticeship

Tom's story

After I finish my course, I would love to work for Milestones Trust. I hope to become a Support Worker and grow and develop within the role, exploring different services, such as Supported Living.

Tom

I’m Tom, I’m 17 years old and I’m currently working as an Apprentice with Milestones Trust where I work 5 days a week at Chasefield House.

I began my work experience at Chasefield House, after Milestones Trust was recommended to me by my dad, who’s a Milestones Trust employee. He said my caring personality would suit this type of work and he was right – I quickly found my feet at Chasefield and after the 6 weeks of work experience had ended, I was then offered an Apprenticeship to stay working at Chasefield. Milestones Trust have supported me to study for my NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care with South Gloucestershire and Stroud College which goes hand-in-hand with my work at Chasefield.

I love supporting individuals with learning disabilities and I am fully enjoying my time here at Chasefield, having been here since the end of July. Chasefield has a very calm environment which makes working here so great – all the staff and service users are really kind and friendly.

I spend lots of my time at Chasefield doing activities with the residents. I regularly go to watch Bristol Rovers with two of the residents and go out-and-about around Bristol and South Gloucestershire with many others. I also help the residents engage with in-house activities such as playing on the iPads, completing puzzles, colouring and drawing.

After I finish my course, I would love to work for Milestones Trust. I hope to become a Support Worker and grow and develop within the role, exploring different services, such as Supported Living.
