On 29th September, Peter Galvin, a Support Worker at Humphry Repton House, ran the Salisbury Half Marathon to raise money for residents at HRH to enjoy day trips and presents at Christmas. Peter has run around 20 long distance races all around the UK, ranging from 10k distances and half marathons in places including Dublin, Isle of Wight and Wales.
Although not his first race, Peter wanted to raise as much money as possible for Milestones Trust as a thank you to the Trust for giving him a chance to develop his career in the care sector. Previously working in retail for many years, Peter recently changed career to work at Milestones Trust, where he’s said he has received all the training and support he could’ve wished for, having settled into his role very quickly.
The half marathon started in Salisbury town centre and finished at the wonderful Salisbury Cathedral, taking Peter 2 hours and 51 minutes. Even during the race he showed why he’s a fantastic care worker, stopping to help a woman who was struggling with chest pains and waiting until medics were on scene to assist her. The conditions on the day were great – rainy but not too bad – and the atmosphere was brilliant, as the crowd lifted Peter up and gave him momentum to carry on.
Peter says he has no other races in the pipeline at the moment, but is keen to raise further money for Milestones Trust, to add to his current £340 that he has raised for the residents at Humphry Repton House by completing the Salisbury Half Marathon. He is currently eyeing up the Newcastle Half Marathon so watch this space…!
