Milestones Trust’s 40th Anniversary – Jessica reflects on her journey

My journey with Milestones Trust began when I was working for an agency and regularly covering shifts in different Milestones homes. As I spent more time working within the Trust, I grew to admire the organisation and knew it was somewhere I would love to work permanently.

A friend who worked in one of the homes encouraged and helped me to apply. My first interview was unsuccessful, but I didn’t give up. I applied again, and this time I was successful and joined Elysian Villas.

My 3 years the Trust has been amazing. I have learned so much, grown personally and professionally, and gained confidence, especially as someone who is naturally introverted. I have had the opportunity to work across different homes, and each experience has helped me develop new skills and knowledge. I love picking up shifts in other homes because it gives me the chance to learn new ways of supporting people.

One of the most rewarding parts of my role is building relationships with the people we support. I’ve met wonderful colleagues and supported individuals with different needs, which has helped me grow in understanding, patience, and compassion. My greatest joy is when a resident says, “I would like to see you again.” It’s a privilege to share happy and funny moments with them, take part in activities, and support them through difficult times.

An important part of my journey has been my career development. I am currently working towards a Level 3 Lead Adult Care Worker qualification, which is being sponsored by the Trust. I never imagined I would grow to this level, but the training, e-learning, and support provided by Milestones Trust have helped bring out the best in me.

Finally, I must say that I have the most supportive managers at Elysian Villas! Their support has been incredible. They make me feel listened to, valued, and encouraged. They believe in their staff and motivate us to do our best.

I have learned so much from my managers, and their support played a huge part in me winning Frontline Worker of the Year at the Trust’s 2025 Extra Mile Awards. I am not surprised that another member of staff from our home has been nominated for Frontline Worker of the Year at the 2026 Care and Support West awards. It reflects the positive environment and encouragement we receive from our leadership team.

I am truly happy and proud to be part of Milestones Trust, and I would like to wish the organisation a very happy 40th anniversary.
