Norman's story

Norman is one of the most dedicated and consistent artists in the studio, contributing to the positive and inclusive atmosphere of the sessions.

Norman is one of the artists who has benefitted most from the return and reinvention of Art@Milestones.

His support team report that Tuesdays have become an important part of his routine. Norman is always up, ready, and eager to attend, often being one of the first people to arrive. He makes the most of the extended three-hour sessions, approaching each week with enthusiasm and commitment.

Norman independently chooses the medium, colours, and techniques he wants to work with. During a typical session, he can create up to ten pieces, producing a vibrant mix of textures, colours, shapes, and marks. As he works, he often talks about horses, trains, and boats, which frequently inspire his creative exploration. Through his artwork, Norman has developed a distinctive visual style that is immediately recognisable.

One of Norman’s most significant pieces is a stitched artwork that evolved over several sessions. The finished piece beautifully reflects his approach to drawing, combining expressive mark-making with bold use of colour and texture.

Norman is usually dropped off by a member of his support team and immediately takes on a welcoming role, greeting artists, volunteers, and visitors as they arrive. He is one of the most dedicated and consistent artists in the studio, contributing to the positive and inclusive atmosphere of the sessions.

Most recently, Norman has been developing a continuous scroll artwork that began as a series of pencil and graphite drawings. He has since returned to the piece, layering colour over the original marks and allowing the work to evolve over time. This ongoing project demonstrates both his focus and willingness to revisit and develop ideas.

As we work towards a future group exhibition, selecting Norman’s artwork will be a challenge. His portfolio contains such a wealth of strong and engaging pieces that choosing just a few works to represent his artistic journey will be no easy task.
