Gary and Sarah 's story

“It was a pleasure to help and support both Gary and Sarah be so happy.”

Kath Barnes, Support Worker

For several years now, two of the people we support in Hanham have wanted to take a holiday abroad. But, due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the planning and even the idea of going on holiday had to be postponed. Thankfully this year the team were finally able to support Gary and Sarah to choose a destination and organise the travel arrangements – the duo’s dream of a holiday in the sun was finally coming true!

After lots of planning, Gary and Sarah headed off for seven nights in Sa Coma on the island of Majorca this July. Along with staff to support them, Gary and Sarah were excited to travel on an aeroplane as this was their first time flying. Gary especially loved it and didn’t stop smiling from the moment he arrived at the airport.

On their first day in sunny Spain, everyone enjoyed a fabulous day by the pool, playing games, sunbathing, and making the most of their all-inclusive package with lots of food and drink whenever they wanted! They also enjoyed fabulous entertainment every night at the hotel. Gary and Sarah spent every night watching, dancing, and getting involved; the staff were so welcoming.

Gary and Sarah went on two trips during their week-long holiday. The first was a three-hour voyage on a glass-bottomed boat trip, watching the fish swimming below and enjoying the sea air! The second was a pirate show in Magaluf where the team enjoyed watching acrobats, dancers and trapeze artists flying in the air. The pirate show was fantastic, and a great way to end an amazing holiday.

Back in the UK, and everyone was feeling a little tired from having such a great time, but this hasn’t stopped them from planning their next holiday! Gary and Sarah would like to do another joint holiday and Gary is planning a cruise of his own with staff for his 60th next year! Looking back, Sarah said, “It was lovely, the rooms were really nice, and my favourite part of the holiday was swimming in the pool”.
