Leaps and bounds

Lisa's story

In my honest opinion, I feel that Michael could not have been placed in a better care home or environment. They have met his needs 100% and go above and beyond looking after him.

Lisa

I would love to express my gratitude to all the wonderful staff at Chasefield.

My brother Michael is a resident there and he has lived there since February 2018. He is a 53 year old man with Down Syndrome and spent over 51 years living with our mum before she took poorly with Alzheimer’s.

All the staff at Chasefield have gone above and beyond in taking care of my brother and his needs. They are kind, caring and very attentive of Michael’s day to day needs. They had to teach him many life skills, so that he would be able to do many things for himself with little or no assistance. He has come on in leaps and bounds and each year I visit him on my annual trip back to Bristol from America, I notice a massive difference in all the new things he can now do for himself.

Michael is so happy at Chasefield. I try to phone him about 3 times a week to catch up on all the things he is doing and his social life – which, by the way, is far better than mine!!!!!

The staff know what he likes to do and they try to accommodate this into his life. For example, Michael loves to go to Wetherspoons down in Fishponds, so they take him there. He wanted to do some modelling, so they kindly arranged for him to go do a modelling session, where he put on his Manchester City top and his favourite black jeans. The photo was amazing, he looked so happy.

The staff also arranged for Michael to go see his beloved football team too. He has been an avid supporter of Manchester City for over 43 years, and he has only ever been about twice before in all those years. And then, he got to go again after many, many years of waiting and watching them on TV. How fantastic is that! The staff even bought him some Man City bedding too.

Nothing ever seems too much trouble for the wonderful Chasefield staff. They held two birthday parties for him, which I went to both on 18th October. There was party food and a lovely cake for him and all the residents attended. He was so happy to celebrate his birthday with his friends and staff at Chasefield.

Each time I phone the home to speak to Michael, I am always spoken to with the upmost respect, kindness and friendliness. And there are always excellent communication skills between myself and the staff.

In my honest opinion, I feel that Michael could not have been placed in a better care home or environment. They have met his needs 100% and go above and beyond looking after him.

He was made to feel like part of the Chasefield family from day one, and I know he is very happy and content there.

I feel so blessed he is at such a fantastic care home with the best staff ever.
